It arrived in total silence unobserved and in disguise crept deep-rooted undetected then it took us by surprise. Some declared coronavirus was no whirlwind, nor a blast; like most objects ‘made in China’ they assumed it would not last. Till it spread to every country like wild fire, beyond control causing havoc amongst thousands and the lives of many stole. Quarantine and isolation, panic, stress and bouts of fear; above all signs of depression, the way forward, dark, unclear. Now it’s time to stick together find the strength not to succumb to the foe, but with conviction we shall rise, we’ll overcome. - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Placed 1st in Brian Strand's Pick 2 Contest (April 2020)

Thank you, Angela. The virus came back with a vengeance! Those who were sceptic about it are now realizing how powerful it is. Goodnight // paul

A curse indeed Paul, they're on about lifting the lockdown yet there's talk of a second wave, God forbid. Stay safe Tom

Hi Tom! I think that UK were too slow in reacting to the virus...and now it is too fast to ease things (considering that it has taken its toll more than in other European countries!) Here in Malta we have been sensible and people have cooperated...doing fine. Regards // paul

Very well articulated narrative for these worrisome times, Paul. I haven't read the other entries, but it doesn't surprise me that it came in first place. As a side note: While it certainly can't be helped (and I fall victim myself) I come to the Soup for some escapism... and after a long absence I come and see a lot of material on the Coronavirus and reality comes rushing back ... Lol! (I feel like those silly people that avoid drinking Corona beer simply because of the association! Oh well.)

Thank you on all counts, Timothy. Unfortunately Coronavirus makes all the headlines, and Soup is no different! As you know, there is no escaping from reality! Regards // paul

Hello Paul, You have put it so well. I was just about to ask you how it's going with the corona crisis in your country, but I guess you have spoken for us all. Precise narrative. Bit of hilarity too

Congratulations Paul Callus. I like your name. This is one of the most beautiful poems I have read on COVID-19, like a product made in China, we definitely know it won't last. Stay home, don't go to Rome. And thanks for reading one of my poems too. God bless you my dear brother. Love and hugs!! You can send me an email gideonfoli7@gmail.com.

Paul, You write of a singularity that knew the depths of another day in this poem's refrain. 'It arrived in total silence unobserved and in disguise crept deep-rooted undetected then it took us by surprise.' As it was told in old ' "Ring around a rosie, a pocket full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.' -Richard

Yes, we will overcome, I hope for better changes to our way of living. I read a post yesterday where silly people take their gloves off and then through them on the ground. I too have seen that. When are people going to learn? Or, is it the way they live in their own homes? Happy Easter, Paul, and stay safe.

Hello Paul … eventually this enemy will be defeated and a vaccine found to win the war, but until then, we should isolate for our own safety. A very, very timely reminder is your verse Paul - stay safe - Lindsay

excellent verse on how this has damaged society! Funny line about made in China!! Trump enjoys referring to it as Chinese flu, maybe because he wants China to look like a bad culprit in the world. It could have begun anywhere (and the conspiracy theories about it are abounding)
