Come feel my pain and cry with me,
witness my loss to wind and sea.
Maria washed away my dreams,
her wails mocking the children's screams.
Puerto Rico struggled to cope
as a surge of water drowned hope.
To lose all, even who you are
outweighs the loss of house or car.
Collapsed homes with no walls or roofs
get pimped by the news, out for spoofs.
And people feel they're all alone
as Trump's heart quickly turns to stone.
Food and water are things I trust,
pray to God if you feel you must.
My life was destroyed on that day
as all I owned floated away.
No lights in the streets and bars,
night was given back to the stars.
And as in a hypnotic trance,
fear joined death in a ghoulish dance.
