Notes About The Poem

Inspired by Coronavirus which my wife survived at Easter..

Crown

This viral curse that wears a crown.
that takes man's breath and lays him down,
that shuts his door,
his church, his town.

Heaven did not sling this bolt,
but patient waits for earth to halt,
and turn its eyes towards the hills,
towards the skies from where help comes,
from where help came when deeper curse was laid,
laid just on one man's frame.

That breath was also given up,
that chest compressed and pierced 'til fluid flowed
when head was bowed, then body bound
and laid in rich man’s tomb.

This rightful wearer of the crown still waits
to make this world his own.
Yet not with fearful covert crown,
but thorny crown for all to see,
high lifted on his mercy tree,
our saving mercy tree.

Bob, I appreciate you sharing the background to your powerful poem. Serious topic yet so FAITH-filled. When we turn our gaze away from our pain - to the Cross where Jesus suffered pain like never before or since - we find RESTORATION at some level. Amen, shalom shalom in Jesus

Nice juxtaposition of CORONA virus, Bob, like the sun's corona, or aura - & "Garland" & Jesus's crown of thorns for my sins & those of the world! Yes, He waits for the final curses on Earth - along with satan - to make way for New Heaven & New Earth. PTL. Shalom. deo

Thanks Anil As a family we have all had this wretched sickness. My wife was serious for a few weeks from mid March but thankfully we are through it now. ( hence my poem 'cough') Without our faith in Jesus it would have been an even greater ordeal, for my wife particularly, and it was around Easter, when she was recovering, that I wrote Crown. Blessings, and may the new heavens and earth be hastened in their coming. Bob
