Crocodile Hunter

Amazing man, amazing legacy.
Do you know what you have done
In this world, you are the only one-
Some called you crazy, some called you wild
It didn’t matter-
You craved those daring adventures and
Did it with a smile.

Born in a world alien to most
You brought us amazement, terror, laughter
Playing daily from coast to coast.
From Down Under
The Crocodile Hunter
Folks scratching their heads,
perplexed in wonder…
“Must be staged!” some claimed,
Yet to see you in action
We knew it was real
By your look of intense satisfaction-

Unknown savior for millions of herps
You brought the wicked snake to a new light
Taught truths where fantasy and lies did abide
Flawless art with intention was your key
Alacrity…immortality…calamity

Stung through the heart
Under the sea, from the most
Amiable of creatures-
Your demise was a worldwide despondency.
Amazing man, amazing legacy
Advocate for truth
The gift you brought to the world
Shall live on forever -
Through your beloved daughter, Bindie Sue.

Dedicated to Steve Irwin

"KRIKEY" Amy, you did a "BANG UP" job eulogizing Steve here. If I had "LOTTO" money to burn I wanted to visit that "AUSSIE" and have him take me "OUT BACK" to see a few "BIG BROWNS" and some "SALTY'S" for sure. All the best, JT

I didn't have the chance to see too much of his show, but I know that the world lost a real naturalist when he died. Great tribute to him. Congratulations on your win! Dan C

Congratulations on first place. I used to love watching Steve Irwin, he was indeed an amazing man, and adventurer. It was sad, when he passed away so suddenly, your poem captured his love for nature and for sharing it with the world... love constance

Yeah, Treadwell certainly had a passion hard to match. Ever see the bio on him?Grizzly Man", I think it was called?

Finally, I stumbled on to one of your pieces Amy and it is truly magnificent. I was a fan of his too. There's another naturalist I'm thinking of writing about. Ever hear of Timothy Treadwell. He had a great love of grizzly bears but sadly as fate would have it one killed him. You are truly a very talented woman Amy. Best Wishes Always, Bill (and yet More Soup Mail)

He is one of my childhood heroes. Poor Steve ..Never trust anything that hisses, or has the name sting in it.. Enjoyed the read..
