Crickets Still Sing
Sometimes the sun sinks into the horizon, as regrets sink into my bones
I listen to the crickets sing in the summer darkness of the night
So many worries get carried away in a tune surrounded by silence
As regrets fly away on the wings of midnight birds not seen
Sometimes it would be nice not to wonder in so many ways
Thoughts wander like being blind amongst the forest trees
Time slows with dreams of sparkling stars that may bring opportunities
Seeking open doors as pretty as a flower covered trellis to the garden
The weight of the past has a way to replay, even after letting it go
No matter the lessons learned, mistakes, failure or pain of being burned
Courage is the only remedy to endure nightmares that may occur
While the mind remembers somehow that the crickets still sing
Never knowing what tomorrow will bring
