This song tribute by Iron Maiden is true to the Cree people. If I may recommend “Anne with an E” out on Netflix, there are episodes on how Cree people’s children were taken and beaten by the White man. Many tribes are also responsible for the death of other tribes, and cannibalism as well, it’s only fair we acknowledge it.  My gross point being that progressives are blasted for romanticizing ancient cultures and wanting to right the wrongs of the past. I’m taking a more centered view on this issue, still I believe they should cede land back to the ancestors of native people.

Creature of Doom

What creature is this that cometh near
His luggage filled to the brim with fear
Crushing our lives, crushing our beliefs
O whence for me shall bring only griefs
What of the men whom now weep?
What of the woman buried alive in their sleep?
What of the children who once stood brave?
Their minds controlled their souls enslaved

The baneful trumpets sound one by one
Can you hear them or are you numb?
Will you fear the creature of doom?
Come undone?
Or shall you overcome?
Overcome, overcome

Filled to the gunwale are the guns
The creature of the swamp now runs
He runs all things and everyone
The children now walk the plank
All hope sank, hopes sank

In summary the acronym to remember is ADKAR, which stands for A-awareness of the need for change, D-desire for change, K-knowledge how to change, A-ability to make the change, R-reinforcement making it stick. Seems like this book would be banned now even though we're not yet at step one for most people in our own country. Duke Beaufort March 12, 2025 at 1:43 PM Anaya, thank-you for not romanticizing history. That's the best approach. Your poem describes the hurt racism causes. This has been going on as far back as recorded human history and suggests that the hardest questions we need to address have not really been front and center. How do we deal with man's (not so much woman's) nature to be bigoted and violent? Seems like we're heading in the wrong direction unfortunately. Seems like we have more men surfacing with problems now.... I have studied all about the many injustices to native Americans such as the trail of tears or the lies told in the Dakota's. You found a good song to emulate.
