Covid Prison Blues - With Apologies To Johnny Cash

I hear protesters comin’, comin’ round the bend
And I ain’t left the house since I don’t know when
I’m stuck in Covid Prison and time keeps draggin’ on
But the protesters keep comin’
Closer to my home.
When I said well maybe, my Doctor told me why
I oughta get the shot just so I didn’t die
When I hear that mob a screamin’
I hang my head and cry.
I bet there’s rich folks eatin’ in a fancy dining car
They’re probably drinkin’ coffee and chattin’ from afar
But I know I had it comin’, I know I can’t be free
But those protesters keep chantin’
And that’s what tortures me.
If I were freed from Covid prison
If that vaccine card was mine
I bet there’d be no protest, everything would be just fine.
Far from Covid prison, that’s where I want to stay
And I’d let those screamin’ vaxxers
Throw my masks away.

**WITH APOLOGIES TO JOHNNY CASH…..

I'd say no apology necessary. I imagine 'the man in black' would be grinnin' away at your rendition. Hope you had as much fun writing this one as I had singing along, John. Absolutely great fun!! Old Johnny was irreplaceable. Don't make them like him anymore. What are we going to do when Willie Nelson goes?!

Yes Gershon, I had a great time trying to make it work within the rhythm of Mr. Cash's original.

Many things sadden me about all this and your poem touches upon the sadness. I feel bad for vaccinated people who trusted the gene therapy injection would work. But break through cases, turned to outbreaks and unforeseen hospitalizations. I feel bad for unvaccinated blamed for a reported vaccine that didn't work. They didn't make it. So much division, heartbreak and then direct harm too documented from the vaccine to the innocent people just wanting to do what is right. Please take care :)

John, your poem flowed along just like Cash's song. Your doctor gave you excellent advice...but I suppose you have your reasons. Best of luck!

I have many reasons for many things but my favorite reason is sometimes unreasonable. I wrote this covid version of the song as I found myself singing the original as I shopped and no one could see my lips moving under my mask.
