Courage To Be Yourself

We all have something different about us.
Our something might be hidden
But it is there, something that makes us odd. Unusual. Weird.
Or maybe something that makes us feel less than.

A weakness, a malady, a disease, a birthmark, a scar, damage.
Stress, life, or someone has damaged us in some way
Our natural tendency is to hide our flaws.
Hide our something.

Because we have not yet learned that our something
Increases our beauty; without it, we are less than whole.
Everyone is less than whole, so the courageous share their flaws.
Share their something with us.

The courageous share their stories, their disease, their mental illness.
Not in a braggadocio way, but as if they are normal.
Becoming heroes to others who are also pretending to be normal.
Other survivors who need to know they are not alone.
