Countdown

Down to the final gasp
Sweat coating acrid tongue
Counting down precious seconds
Fidgeting with his past

Sweat coating acrid tongue
Future blank in front of him
Fidgeting with past
Freedom at long last

Future blank in front of him
Staring bleakly into space
Freedom at long last
Time ticking oh-so-fast

Staring bleakly into space
No magic left in life
Time ticking oh-so-fast
Music of an outcast

Bitter tasting are his thoughts
The sand dial dips precariously
Counting down precious seconds
Sticking in his bond-dry throat

The sand-dial dips precariously
Counting down precious seconds
Sticking in his bone-dry throat
Down to the final gasp

This is so cool - I think my favorite line is 'music of an outcast' - I've felt like an outcast many times- I'm going to have to learn how to write a pantoum! Have a good day gw-

Thank you for such a nice comment, Michelle! fyi: I had never written a pantoum before, so I looked it up on poetry soup's 'types of poems,' and followed the instructions. I wrote it in about 50 minutes. Then I revised it twice, each time taking about 15 mins....and it seemed to come out ok. Good luck! :) gw
