Contradictions

She's awash in contradictions.
Though you just might fall in love
with those big doe eyes.

She'll put you on a pedestal.
To her, you can do no harm.
She is a friend to the very end.

Still, she could bring you to your knees.
She dislikes being rude, crude, or vulgar.
Though she will straighten out that picture.

She doesn't like negative or toxic people.
Not necessarily shy, just aloof in her ways.
As she's dreaming of some magical place.

She loves sparkling bobbles and dancing till dawn.
She'll cry at the movies or the slightest of slights.
She'll invite the angels in from out of the cold.

Sometimes you'll think she's afraid of the world.
But give her a cause, then you'll see.
That steel backbone and endurance in adversity.

You might think she's most adaptable.
As you try to bend her all the wrong ways.
She'll say, you can't make me do it that.
Then she'll laugh as she's walking away.

At times she'll need reassurance from you.
Things will be OK, she just might not want to,
Jump off that cliff today.

As she whispers goodnight in your ear, she'll
Ask the angels to keep you safe and warm.
You might think she's a bit scatterbrained.
Till she shows you what you're looking for.

Yes, she might be a hope chest in contradictions.
But, she'll leave you with a smile, as she moves
the tides inside you all the while.

Can I ask a question? In the first line do you mean to say awash in contradictions--as though she is immersed in contradictions (usage a verb) or do you actually mean she is a wash (noun) in contradictions like in a laundry load? I like both. I would also jump in a washing machine with you anytime. I want to end by saying that I do not know all that much, but this poem reflects a huge portion of what I know to be true. Life is such a wonderful mystery, and you describe it well.

You have actually expressed a large part of the meaning of life here. That's amazing! It's not often that I see something that comes close to that. Also, from a male perspective, I think that guys would love to have a partner such as described here because she is loving and engaging as well as independent. If I weren't married, I would want to buy a ticket to visit this enigma this weekend to check this all out. So--funny, real, beautiful, loving and dedicated to a cause. What a package!

Debby, this is a charming poem. I really like it because it fits in with what I have observed throughout my life regarding emotion and desire. When it comes to us humans, there are a lot of things happening at different times depending on our emotional state and what we are faced with. Your description reflects a sense of self esteem and beauty with a sense of humor. It's like a whole lot of experience condensed into a small package and filled with love. This is fun to contemplate.

this is very enjoyable reading. I was wondering if maybe you were describing yourself!! She sounds marvelous!!! (in one line did you mean to say adaptable instead of adoptable?) Keep up the good work, Debbie.
