Contemplate You
I was not expecting you.
I’m entranced and stare.
I always excite watching you.
It’s so hard to watch you now.
When you sang, I never looked away.
You gave me awe and goosebumps
every time you did your thing.
Now, you’re a devastating view.
I still want to pray for you.
It’s hard not to cry for you.
In your field, you were trumps,
your gifts, beyond compare.
It’s hard not to contemplate you,
ponder the why in what happened
to disable your perfect traction.
I heard an angel sing; she was on my TV screen.
I heard my own cry, “Whitney, make me high once more,
oh, how your voice soars." How hard it must have been
to fall with the whole world looking on. Such a pretty
face, so young on the TV. As a full packaged promise
you were certainly delivered a sad way to die.
Sing, Whitney, sing while I try not to cry.
