In the 1997 movie, Contact, the up-front plot line addresses the oft-played interstellar event, as per Sagan’s novel. But perhaps the greater takeaway from this flick is the unfolding interpersonal event and contact transpiring between Ellie Arroway (Jodie Foster) and Palmer Joss (Matt McConaughey) Living on two different world-view planets at the beginning, the ending finds them together while retaining their respective views and finding a workable personal and professional relationship. This poem is a reflection on that process. My beginning lines and impetus, however, came from Dave Matthews song, The Space Between.
I honestly didn’t think I was going to be able to step up to the plate on this one. It felt like I was learning how to play 3D chess (LOL). When I added capitalization and punctuation things seemed to be a bit more coherent, inconsistencies not withstanding, so I’ll invoke grammatical artistic license upon this one.
