CONCRETUS MEDITATIO: PONDERING THE PAVEMENT

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
cracks map forgotten rivers: tar-black seams~ occasionally, one splits into a canyon. hot asphalt breathes tar-scented hymns while bus brakes screech the chorus line. pigeon’s sudden backheel scatters scraps. ants haul crumbs like miniature sherpas. a dropped coin rolls, gutter bound. discarded receipt whirls, a brief and weightless ghost. above, glass giants hold the sky’s reflection— my eyes stay earthbound, counting the braille of footsteps left behind. my shadow stretches, thin as doubt at noon. here, gravity feels optional. I walk. I ponder.
It's a wonderful meditation on the ground beneath our feet and the sense of smallness and wonder one can find in a city street. That line, "my shadow stretches, thin as doubt at noon," is truly the poetic heart of the piece.
Dear Sara, I’m enthralled by your textured imagery and exceptional metaphors in your poem of pavement introspection. A city feast for the mind and the senses. Loved every line of this amazing verse! Best wishes for a win and warmest wishes for you, my inspiring poet friend.. ~Susan
How different - "hot asphalt breathes tar-scented hymns while bus brakes screech the chorus line. "
