Compost Pile

A poem, lovely as a compost pile, One lingers, sifts the elements awhile. At first unclear, not all is evident; Sharp images emerge as time is spent. Though pieces, separate, may cause chagrin, When taken as a whole, beauty's within. To mull, to stew, to tease suggestions out Though time elapses, ere they take shape, sprout. For oft, a new direction is deduced, Organic thoughts are grown, notions produced. A poem such as this is never spurned, But contemplated often, gently turned. ————-

Wonderful image Jeff and so uniquely creative. There are so many "organic" elements to a compost pile - each contributing to the ultimately life giving fertilizer it creates for creativity! Congratulations on your win. This is a fav for me. It really stands out in so many ways. Blessings for your creative compost pile as you continually add to its life giving, poem inspiring experiences.

Thanks, Sam! I'm not very good with the flowery language, so I have to go with what I know! :-)

I love this. As one who had large gardens (vegetable, herb, flower, roses) for many years, I am quite familiar with the gifts of the compost pile. I could not be without a large one and, often, it gave me new plants. Great idea and execution.

What a “contemplated” “pile”, Jeff, floated to the surface, “gently turned”. I’m drawn to your peculiar mindset from now on:) Congrats! M.

Interesting, to say the least. But, when you read it as a metaphor, it takes on most important meanings. Good writing, Jeff.

I figured if Love is a pothole, a poem could be a compost pile :-) I like reading a good poem that I come back to and find more meaning, and one that helps me tease out ideas of my own. That's fertile ground there!

Unusual, choosing compost as the title. Low grade fertiliser made from organic waste, as far as I recall. Good for the crops though, which is why you chose it, I suppose. Enjoyed your musings on creation of great poetry, good luck in the contest, Jeff

To me, the best poems I read are one that make me think, reveal more of themselves over time, and lead me to my own ideas and thoughts - that was the genesis of the idea - thanks!
