Competitive Spirit

Do you think of me when you're gone?
Do you believe I can move on?
Darling, I'm sorry if I hurt you in anyway
Someday, I will reach the finish line, okay?

I know you don't care much for me
But, I will be free with sunlit glee
I know you loved me once upon a time
Once upon a time, we were birds that took wing
Birds that can freely sing

Once upon a time, I had a competitive spirit
But I gave up and now I'm guilty this time
I'm chained to this feeling of shame and I'm throwing a mighty fit
Now, I'm the criminal that committed a terrible crime

I will not regret the past as I see fit
I'm trapped in lonely chambers in my head
The sorrow I've put you through - I'm still not over it
I'm fighting off yesterday's dread...putting my doubts to bed

I know you don't care much for me
But, I will be free with sunlit glee
I know you loved me once upon a time
Once upon a time, we were birds that took wing
Birds that can freely sing

Once upon a time, I had a competitive spirit
But I gave up and now I'm guilty this time
I'm chained to this feeling of shame and I'm throwing a mighty fit
Now, I'm the criminal that committed a terrible crime

My competitive spirit's gliding with glory and joy
Despite being manipulated insane like a kid's toy
I'm broken and it's so shameful
I'll try to stand tall, though I feel awful

I know you don't care much for me
But, I will be free with sunlit glee
I know you loved me once upon a time
Once upon a time, we were birds that took wing
Birds that can freely sing

Once upon a time, I had a competitive spirit
But I gave up and now I'm guilty this time
I'm chained to this feeling of shame and I'm throwing a mighty fit
Now, I'm the criminal that committed a terrible crime

Do you believe in me when I'm running this race?
Do you think I am an amazing grace or a total disgrace?
Baby, I'm not sorry for the words I utter
Your words were as suave and appealing as butter,
But it stabbed me like a jagged knife
I've been searching all over for you all my life
All my life
All my life

I know you don't care much for me
But, I will be free with sunlit glee
I know you loved me once upon a time
Once upon a time, we were birds that took wing
Birds that can freely sing

Once upon a time, I had a competitive spirit
But I gave up and now I'm guilty this time
I'm chained to this feeling of shame and I'm throwing a mighty fit
Now, I'm the criminal that committed a terrible crime

You made my day, despite your slight negativity
I want to let go of worry and let my mind wrap around positivity
You-you left me without a trace
Beads of sweat rolls down my face
Don't you dare say you're not beautiful or good enough
Because you are my everything - it's pitiful that life is tough

I know you don't care much for me
But, I will be free with sunlit glee
I know you loved me once upon a time
Once upon a time, we were birds that took wing
Birds that can freely sing

Once upon a time, I had a competitive spirit
But I gave up and now I'm guilty this time
I'm chained to this feeling of shame and I'm throwing a mighty fit
Now, I'm the criminal that committed a terrible crime

I dodged the daggers of distress
I won vast grace and I'm crowned with success
I'm making grand progress
I'm grinning with sunlit glee
I want to be happy
I want to be happy
I want to be happy with me
I want to be happy with you
I want to be free
I want you to leave me be
I want you to be free
For eternity
