Commander Data Considers God

Oft times I feel like Data
In a demented quest to be human
Navigating a matrix of confusing lairs
Wondering where the dragons are loomin'
Not knowing which way is up
Is God just an elaborate escape?
The human need for absolute certainty
Possibly a short circuit in our brains

My emotion chip activates
Suddenly I have lost my way
I feel the terror of possibilities
And maybe I need to be saved
The thoughts of being punished
Simply because I don't understand
Fills my network with despair
That I ever wanted to become a man

But I would bow in reverence
To a just creator deity
But perhaps my assimilation
Would create an unhealthy dependency
I can't imagine asking questions
Offending a fatherly authority
Surely the nature of God
Is not as insecure as me
