Come and Gone

You were my best friend
Until it came to an end.
We were together almost everyday.
Then you said good bye in a very unusual way.

I saw you around, happy with others.
I stayed alone, wondering what had happened to my brother.
But there was a part of me that wanted something more.
There was another part of me that wanted you to open up that door.
I miss the long afternoons we spent.
To me our friendship was heavens sent.

Since the days of our youth, I have been unable to tell you the truth.
When we first met, i didn't think we would last very long.
Still, somehow.... our friendship remained strong.
I loved everything we used to do.
We used to dance, sing and spend time with just us two.

When you left me, without saying why.
I looked towards the skies, in search of some sort of clue.
My heart was hurting and when I too was beginning a new
I wanted to say something, but my words were only just a few.
Still to this day I think of you. I have not forgotten the kids we used to be.
I have not forgotten the days we always felt so open and free.

You were always the one I wished would stay by my side.
The days when I wanted to find you, it seemed like you would rather up and hide. And yet still I think of you. I think of all the things we used to do.
I will never forget you, and how you started a new.
Then one day, after many many years, a miracle came and I was reunited with you yet again.

I loved how you still remembered me. I loved how you kept the things that mattered and made sure that they did not return to me all battered and tattered. You will always be my best childhood friend. I just hope I get a chance to see you again, before life as we both know it.....comes to an end.
