Colours of the Heart

How fickle are the humors of the heart, capricious and of alternating hue. a masked chameleon of cunning art; transmuting colours often hid from view. Now sunk in sombre thoughts of deep regret now tinged with envy's veil of deepest green, rose-coloured when by love's suffusion met or cleansed as white as snow and pristine clean. Just like the changing seasons, hearts endure bright sunshine, louring skies or sudden storms, and when the heavy heart is overcast it looks not upwards as a rainbow forms. Kaleidoscopic heart, at journey's end which hues will shape the palette's final blend? entered 13.02.21 My Foolish Heart Poetry Contest Sponsored by Craig Cornish 03/12/18

How many times have people fallen in love only to endure "somber thoughts of deep regret"? We continue on, hoping that the final blend of hues will be joyful colors. So sad that it doesn't work out this way. Excellent writing once again, Wendy! Congrats on your win. Hugs, Carolyn

"and when the heavy heart is overcast it looks not upwards as a rainbow forms." I absolutely love these two lines from your wonderful sonnet Wendy that attaches colours to feelings of the heart beautifully.

Stunning poetry, Wendy. Your devotion to the sonnet's poetic constraints is always admirable, but the examination of the heart from the perspective of colours is most original. I came to this after reading your recent excerpt and am so pleased to see the context from which it sprung. The coloured emotions in stanza two and the nature references of stanza three brilliantly describe the evanescent nature of the human heart. I love the couplet synopsis, a fave for me. Sensational writing, friend.

Thank you, Carolyn. The green shade has sometimes raised its ugly head in my case and I think we'd all agree to being fickle creatures. Imagine if we were to physically change colour according to our true feelings at any one time!

Wendy, congrats on your win on Mile 2 of my 2019 Poetry Marathon contest. Love the line "It looks not upwards as a rainbow forms." Interestingly, at the same time you submitted this poem, another poem was submitted that used the word "kaleidoscopic." Go figure!
