Notes About The Poem

Cobwebs - Season of Death

Sometimes life is the tragedy
of a fly, caught in a cobweb -
awaiting its fate.

It's happening again,
a child of summer misplaced
in the dawn of autumn's anguish.

All I want is to smell spring flowers.

My pen struggles to breathe,
in this downfall season of death,
yet the ink pours with the insecurities of rain.
Ten years later, memories remain,
as monotonous funereal hues fill the air.

Once again you disturb my sleep.
A black shadow with no halo nor wings,
I can see the whiteness of your eyes,
similar to mine, trying to connect -
but I fail to comprehend the messages.

An uninvited guest at your death bed,
I broke promises to never cry that day.
Not sure if it was rage or regret,
but walls could have shattered to the floor,
lying in shards of stubborn bitterness.

You were the most mighty tree I had seen,
but your branches never sheltered me.
How you had fallen like autumn leaves,
waiting to be elevated from the ground.
No longer could you sin nor cause pain.
I remember your last silent breath,
held your hand as your eyes closed forever.

I still place flowers upon your resting place,
but remain torn in this battle of emotions

wondering if I should destroy cobwebs,
or let spiders feast upon their prey.

Oh Silent, this one is so emotional. I am always having troubles choosing words, don't know what to say, but this poem of yours is a classic, a masterpiece. Why don't you destroy the cobwebs, flies do not belong there. They are born to fly. You are truly an incredible poet.

You were the most mighty tree I had seen but your branches never sheltered me.Sadly those we look up to fail us.They are human beings with their own past, who dont know any other way of how to love us or protect us as children young or old,and it cuts like a knife, and we ask why,I asked why many times. Why is my dad different,Why wasnt I brought up in cotton candy. It took me very long to forgive.him,to forgive myself for not accepting his illnessto accept that part of my life story.

Leave the spider, let nature alone, just carry on with your awesome poetry, that, where your mind resonates with your pen, and may long it be.

Silent One, this poem is so very deep and emotional.. the metaphorical impact is stunning. Your talented and intimate pen draws me to the center of this anguish where I will linger for a while immersed in the haunting feeling of this piece. Impressive and expressive in the depth and breadth of a deep-seated and ceaseless heartbreak. Your emboldened lines are so impactful! Warmest wishes my dear friend.. ~Susan

"Ten years later, memories remain" It is evident that those "cobwebs" collect within your mind. I have no idea what you have been through, but to dwell on the past- the pain- it will only keep you there. To caress Spring, you must somehow let go. Of Autumn and Winter. Those emotions of rage or regret. Hugs, Brandy
