Clown of Fright
Clown of Fright
How I long to stay awake,
Just days after his circus wake.
I pinch myself repeatedly,
to keep from sleeping.
Wet tears steam down,
my face from weeping.
Horror greets
me in the night.
His laugh is light
and his skin is bright
but his clown face
is a terrible fright.
He haunts me
in my dreams.
He sits up in his coffin
and twists his head,
to stare at me and laugh hauntingly.
He’s my dead Grandfather.
A clown of fright,
scaring me in the night,
as I dream.
This is a horror poem. When I was little my cousins and I would look at our Grandmother's photo album at night. In it she had pics of our 40 year old Grandfather dead in his coffin from the war. We would look at it right before bed to frighten ourselves. I would have nightmares about him dressed as a frightening clown, a little twist that my imagination brought in my dreams. So this poem is from my actual dream.
