Closed Chapter of Rg
And some nights I did not sleep
While the rustling leaves still tell
Your footsteps of vengeance steep
In their dead cortege toll the knell
Of human trust and human peace.
And in all thy wickedness to excess
They flocked the Baal of your feast
Believing in the piousnes you profess
Believing creature more than their
Creator, shaking heaven with despair
But in fervent watch against your sin
Missed the bloom of many spring
Until I forgave you and felt the wind
From the altar where angels sing.
Unleash at last from demon memories
I praise the Lord for faith's firm victories.
And now with your chapter close
I smell again the blushing rose.
