i read this one before and loved it; it's intricately crafted and clever; it reads very smoothly and the last two lines are particularly good (nice rhyming maestros/control/concerto) i would've placed this one higher for sure - congrats on your win :)

Lovely thought in your fourth line -- maestros attempting control. A super metaphor going on here. Well-done Sandra, I agree a top-ten tanka.

This one was a great example of metaphorical tanka, Sandra. I don't know if many of us can be considered maestros in our own lives, but the pounding hearts made me think of people when they are lovers! It is one that makes the reader think. Well done and congrats in my contest.

Hi Andrea, another of your fine contests I enjoyed participating in. I appreciate that you liked this poem enough for my placement on your limited winner's list. Today's digital clocks seem to be lacking "hearts," like the old-fashioned "tick-tock" of previous analog type, which I reference in my poem. Thanks again, Sandra
