Cleaning the Window, Watching the Ant in the Flood
Looking out through my kitchen window, missing you in solitude,
I clean that window once more for tomorrow.
Waiting for you again, to soothe my own pain before yours,
Someone begs for food picked up from the street,
While I beg for ingredients for a new meal in the kitchen.
The world splits into two fork-roads,
Collapsing like a stack of dominoes.
One toward the wetland's stream,
Another toward the river,
We dance to the tune of the architects built by the pyramids.
Like a monarch dreaming of rising through the ranks here and there,
We all shine like blades of grass, yet eventually one side collapses,
Just like a single rose being plucked by someone.
As if all of us step on solid ground, stand up and rise again,
Building our castle walls within and reinforcing them once more,
Yet watching the walls crumble in the flood,
The one who builds yet another wall upon those ruins drinks wine.
We all hold each other's dreams, yet eventually reveal their hollow shells.
One falls into ruin, while another builds a sturdy castle upon that ruin.
Yet we all came forth for love,
Even if an ant builds its own ant wall,
It collapses in the rain, only to build the wall again.
Within that dream,
Though a monarch builds dreams inside those castle walls,
Welcoming the rain, he drinks wine once more from those walls.
