Citizens of the Night
I’ve been watching you, these summer days, and I think it is time,
to take your hand beneath the stars, kiss you, and make you mine.
There is but one law love abides, and that law is desire.
Is your heart yet burning? My soul is but a pyre.
The moon will be our witness. We need no other friend.
Just the glow of silver light to guide us to the end.
You and I, we know the truth, what need have we to prove,
To others, who can’t understand, the force that makes us move?
In darkness we can make amends for those who cast their hearts,
Away into some deep abyss; thus their death then starts.
But we maintain the pulse of life, and we create our dreams,
While they build cities in the light, and fade beneath their gleams.
They call our kind a dying race, how strange, those of the light.
They have already perished, while we dance in the night.
