Cicada

Stained glass Stained glass wings, vulnerably
fragile wings high above churchs window
    small scapulae overlooking altar, priests
wild hair choir boys in awe
         clouded mind scared citizens

                Cautiously freed cicada wings
                       hidden for too long
                     spit upon, never seen

           Cicada, colourless and trampled
          unfolds itself, preparing a
         first, frightening jump, flying
        away with fragile glass wings
       Stained person colourful person

There must be an echo in here but, is there no end to your talent. That first step, first flight on new, untested, fragile glass wings...basically a leap of faith into the unknown. So a cool design and a poem that reads whatever direction the reader choses to move their eyes. Yep...no end to your talent my friend.

So interesting, Darren. You are a whiz kid with so many types of poetry (thanks for reading both versions of it. You are in a small minority who liked it free verse.)

I saw, and friendly disagree with the commenters ;) I stay with my opinion: the free verse one is so far more powerful. Thanks for the comment here, Andrea :)

the picture and the poem - together made think of angles - and she/he watching the congregation at church , but the poem by itself made think of a cicada at church flying around at church service - and then on the ground as people are leaving with or without what was to be learned (p.s. NCLD )

Thanks for the interpretation Verlecia. I love it how for everyone a different meaning can be read. That's wonderful. By the way, what does NCLD mean? :)
