"I'm not a Grinch, but would rather see an inch of new growth on a tree then to fell it down to please me." ~ by poet Quite earnestly, I would decree it unjust to cut down a tree then simply toss it as debris It saddens me It saddens me Trim it with ornaments and light Praise its beauty every night But it's dying, not from a blight I feel contrite I feel contrite They're glorified, as tradition But trees don't give us permission So, we are... in supposition A mortician A mortician Flocked with snow, their needles die Drooping branches will certify Christmas trees, humans crucify When death is nigh When death is nigh Trees place oxygen in our air Replenishing what we can't spare Everyone should be made aware Does it seem fair Does it seem fair We destroy them for our pleasure Enjoying moments at leisure They do more good than we measure Nature's treasure Nature's treasure

Hi Lin! Just trying to catch up on congratulating winners! In the past I have felt like you do. Each year we go to a tree farm for our Christmas tree. The farm insists that when you cut down a tree that you leave three - four whorls of branches at the bottom of the tree. These whorls grow into a new tree. Each year when we come back we see the new trees growing from these whorls. I feel better about "topping" a tree than completely taking it down to the ground. Congrats! Blessings!

Thanks for going back to read this one. It's sad to me as well. I've never heard about this type of 'topping.'

I liked the repeated phrases, for they added emphasis to the tragedy that befalls Christmas trees. I dare so most of us don't think about the natural life we've taken for a few weeks of beauty. I've often felt as you do, sad. A great a contest contender. Well done. Enjoy your evening, Sara

Sorry your tree died, Paula, but at least you tried. I know artificial trees are expensive, but so are real ones. Thanks for your thoughts. Have a fine weekend.

I like your work. I like the repeating of the phrases. Last year I bought two trees in pots and my husband set them out in the yard. The deer nibbled on one, but it looks as if it might make it and the other one is just hanging on. This year I have done nothing. I guess maybe felt bad about my situation with no energy. LOL..Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K

Thanks, Sara. The form is called 'Monotetra.' You did well to plant them... your effort counts. You're welcome for the visit to your poetry. Hugs.

Thanks, Danny. I expected to get a few, "Boos and hisses" for this one, but c'est la vie. I was guilty for years, and I know it's a family tradition, but it's still sad that so many are cut to be enjoyed so short term.

Such a shame so many are cut down for a couple weeks of pleasure, that said I've heard of some companies guaranteeing for every tree sold they plant two to replace the one they cut down. Good luck Lin. Tom

That would help, but I still cringe at the number that are cut down and left to die on the lot. Thanks for the good luck wishes, Tom.
