Citrus Christmas Prais'n Rais'n Dandy Candy Dapple Apple
My mother and father told me when they were young that sometimes on Christmas there might be an apple, an orange, some candy and some raisins..Poverty was rampant in our country..Is it still that bad????

Perhaps! But riches sometimes are tasteless. I love your footle...it is unique, one to savor...the words...the eye candy! Fave!

Kim, Yes, riches can be unsavorary in some homes..In my father's family there were 8 boys and 3 girls..They were a farm family and life was not easy..They had plently of love for each other though..There was no TV, internet, cell phones, etc. but they had each other..They looked after each other..They always had something to eat and their clothes were clean and darned..They learned from nature and observing others..Thanks for dropping by..Sara

This is an excellent write on a difficult but fun form my friend! Yes, my grandparents when they were children that is what they got for Christmas...a sack with an orange, an apple, raisins, and candy if they were lucky! And they were thrilled to get that, they went off on their own, each keeping their sack to themselves, and not sharing with each other...they were children, that's what they do! What a fantastic poem my friend, I enjoyed it this morning, Great Work!!

Russell, Your grandparents were probably from the same generation of my parents..My father was born in 1899 and my mother in 1901..Times were hard for them..My mother's father died when she was 5 and her mother was left with five children from the age of 12 years to 6 months old..Sara

Roy, some business men here go to the grammar school on Friday at lunch on their lunch hour and pack food for some of the children to take home for the week end..Of course, what they pack is not the most nutritous nor healthy items but at least they won't go hungry..Sara
