Christmas Nostalgia

Lonely widow hums as
She meticulously sets out
Her Christmas china
Lovely napkins
And candles

Her table lays awaiting
Festivities of yesteryear

No one is scheduled to come
But one never knows

This living in isolation
Miles away from family
Hurts most during the holidays

Out of the corner of her eye
She sees little ones scurrying
And hears happy chattering about

Nostalgic happiness exudes
Joy, love and anticipation

So clockwise she makes her way
Around her pretty set table
One meal at a time
Happiest when she
Sometimes convinces
A neighbour passing by
To join her for tea and treats
Or more, and then
The phone rings as she smiles
Her guests now around the table

She is in the holiday spirit
Anxious though for it all to be over

that was a very nice poem, Line. A great description of a woman who cannot give up her favorite Xmas tradition! But I think it is good to have dreams and keep them alive, especially if she can still convince neighbors to come to her table!

My mother has actually started doing this and it gets her through the holidays.
