Christmas Morning In Chicago

Stores are closed, shuttered
   Highways and roads uncluttered
On the water alight ducks and geese
The air is still, infused with peace

Lonely silhouettes of figures are out for a walk
Homeless, or having no one at home with whom to talk
Some stand shivering, patiently awaiting a bus or train
Praying deep in their hearts that it won't snow or rain

Christmas morning in Chicago, a time of quiet contemplation
A scene replicated in towns and villages across this nation
Be it greeted by a smile, a shrug, a tear or a frown
It's a window for reflection, a moment to build around

I am happy to read your words, Line. If you got out and about a bit today, how was it in your neck of the woods in Canada?! Merry, merry X-mas! ~ gw

Thank you so much for your feedback, Ilene. I can just picture how New York would be, at least in the parks I know along the Hudson, as well as in parts of Brooklyn and Queens. (Some have 'limited English;' I have 'limited NYC.'). Best wishes, Gershon

Thank you for your kind words, Jan, and for your continuing support as we head into a New Year...I do so hope that you can make it here some day, and if here includes Chicago, you have simply got to let me know, and I will make my business to see that we get together. (soupmail). Happy Holidays! ~ Gershon (soupmail).
