Christel's Courage
When a poet tries to help another
It's a kindness like no other
She asks me how I chose what to write
She wants to see my ideas take flight
If my passions are veiled compensation
Maybe for missteps, past apprehension
Personal failing yet unclaimed
For a hurt too deep unnamed
Then she lets fly this verse
Advice on courage, poetry terse:
Write about what's deep within, in
Or a place you feel you've been, begin
It takes little courage to take a stand, grand
When all's in play is penned by hand, planned
On the front lines those who won't decry, try
Where it's for others the bullets fly, by
Without regard for their personal care, dare
Friends who risk an effort there, aware
The cause that's often too rough, tough
When writing's not quite the stuff, enough
Courage set to word joins the fight, write
That's the poet's true right, might
Christel's the hero this day
She's inspired what I say
True friendship, you know, goes that way
