Chocolate Lies

When you start feeling less than whole; half-truths become hard to endure. And chocolate lies tempt your soul; bittersweet, they leave you unsure. As tears snuff out passion's flame, fantasy gets rebuked by truth. And fear begins assigning blame; implicating the whims of youth. Feeling he was cheating on you, you struggled to understand why. And as your anxieties grew, you wanted to curl up and die. You let self-doubt counsel a heart broken and exposed to attack. And started questioning your part wishing you could turn the clock back. Love's bonds were cut, as with a knife, leaving only anguish and pain. And it's devastated your life; threatening to drive you insane.

Clever use of bittersweet in the same sentence as "chocolate lies". Very raw phrase "as your anxieties grew you wanted to curl up and die". Strong poem, Emile.

Brilliant one, Emile! Love that first stanza -it really resonates with me personally....the temp of a chocolate lie...the bittersweetness of deceptive love's bite... it's all very alluring, yet heartbreaking, cruel almost.... and as you go along, the lines become more and more unbearable. I love effective poetry like this! Always, Laura
