Chips and Salsa -- a Love Song

I wanted to make a rhythm and blues style song that said me and my wife go together well using similes and/or metaphors.  One of my favorite snack foods at home, and appetizers in restaurants, is tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole dip.  Thus the title and theme Chips And Salsa.

We need to start a grass roots movement and get peers to petition the government nutrition organization (that declares stuff such as the Recommended Daily Allowance) to declare that chips and salsa are an essential a food group and to make them the foundation of every pyramid diet plan in all school textbooks and government publications.  I'm thinking too small--let's petition the World Health Organization!

Life could be better, but easily worse.
Sometimes I feel blessed; other times cursed.
As I get older, I look back and see—
Life’s mostly better when you are with me
Together we’re like…

Chips and salsa, with some cilantro inside (Kinda spicy).
Yeah, like chips and salsa, with guacamole one the side (Kinda feisty).
We go together, obviously. I hope, forever, that you’ll stay with me.
We’re like	chips and salsa, jalapenos on the side.

Sometimes we argue, but don’t really fight.
I know you love me, so it’s all right.
You know I love you, so it’s plain to see
Life’s clearly better when you are with me
Together we’re like…

Chips and salsa, with some cilantro inside (Kinda spicy).
Yeah, like chips and salsa, with guacamole one the side (Kinda feisty).
We go together, obviously. I hope, forever, that you’ll stay with me.
We’re like	chips and salsa, jalapenos on the side.

I’m movin’ forward, but keep lookin’ back.
Anything missing? Anything lack.
With hindsight vision, I look back and see--
Life’s always better when you are with me.

Mark, what a great first name :) I like this because it's quirky romantic and makes me hungry :) This could be another hit for Jimmy Buffet! Seriously, if you ever record this and upload it to YouTube or such, please let me know. Congratulations on your win on Mile 20 of my 2019 Poetry Marathon Contest! Thank you so much for supporting my contests. By continuing to place in the contests you are accumulating points toward the final. ~Mark

Thanks for commenting; glad you liked it. I hear it more as a Michael Buble song, though Buffet would be great at my son Tropical Getaway. I've potentially added a fourth verse and rewritten it a bit to make it more singable, under the title Chips And Salsa - final song version.
