Notes About The Poem

Chicago's Jewish schools have been open for a week. So far, so good...

Chicago School Shutdown

In the once-great City of Chicago
all the public schools are shut down
Teachers threatened to strike
  Parents had nervous breakdowns

So there's on-line instruction
up to seven hours a day
Does that sound reasonable
  Psychologists say no way...

Meanwhile, Jewish schools are open
All the kids attend, and they're stoked
to prove that public schoolteachers' bravado
~ is no more than a bona-fide hoax

Good bless those who stand up -- revolting against the lies. I had yard-sale this past weekend...did not wear a mask. Many who came were also face-naked. Couple beards, like myself, though.

People used to tell me 'Take off your mask' -- and that was before COVID! lol. Thanks, Joe. :) gw

We will see how all the experiments go. Children need interaction and comraderie with other children. Keep us up with what happens. Blessings to you and yours.

So far, so good, anyway. Today was about the 10th day of school. (Jewish schools have a 1/2 day on Labor Day). ~ Fingers crossed, Gershon

It's tough on all...I see the CTU more as a political arm than looking out for the children. I hope we don't have a lost generation.

Couldn't agree with you more, TS. The CTU is all about protecting its members and their bloated compensation plan, no matter how or what it may expose the students to. Here's to charter schools. If permitted to grow and develop, they'd put the CTU and CPS out of business, and maybe kids now attending failing schools could have a shot at success... This is a dream, of course, in a one-party dictatorship of a town where the choice for mayor is between Toni Taxwinkle and Lori Leadfoot. ... If I weren't an Orthodox Jew, I'd be out of here in a heartbeat... :) gw

I'm sure that your relatives and many others who want the best for their children are none too happy. It's time for charter schools to replace all the failing public schools in Chicago, and get the lead out of that system!! :) gw

More and more bizarre. The students in our area were given the choice to attend classes or to attend online, doubling the work of the already beleaguered teachers. Great rhyme Gershon! laf

Exactly! If the teacher has to teach in person and on-line, he or she won't do a good job of either. How does that serve the students?! Thanks for a really perceptive comment, Linda! :) gw

I hope that they are right; I am so tired of sheltering in place. I really hope they are right!

I sure hope they're right too. So sick of the scaredy-cat teachers who hide behind their unions instead of doing their jobs and serving their communities and kids. 'Course in Chicago, they'll probably demand 'Combat Pay' or some such absurdity if they ever do go back... ~ gw
