Chessman

Confidently he played
Cat and mouse across the
Chequered board of her heart,
Cheating behind her back.
Caught in the act, he lay
Cowering in defeat:
Checkmate...the final move.

Have to laugh, Paul - there is a current 'Pleiades' contest, and I hacked one out fairly fast; thought it pretty good. Being new to this form, I started looking around at what other people had done, to see what the competition might be like. Then I saw your poem, here, and, "Uh-oh, you're in trouble, Doug." ; )

Very creative poem, Paul. Interwoven in the chess motif is the treacherous betrayal in a relationship. Great thought provoking art of poetry. It was so rewarding to read ... believe it or not ... I was only going to give this a 6 but my cursor was jumping about and I thought it not worth altering. I really like this. I noticed the lines all began with c and thought what a neat idea but I now see that was set by a contest. This deserves to be a winner in my book.
