Cherished Heart

The quality that touches my heart
The most dearly about you, Mom
Is how you feel joy in the simplest of things

How you find all that you see
delightful, interesting, amazing
Sometimes moving you to tears
Never tired of appreciating
Admiring from every angle
Beauty big and small
Cherishing the flower and the masterpiece alike

What I would give to hear every day
That wonderstruck gasp
As pure as a wide-eyed child’s awe

When you reach heaven’s gate
You will be surely given a direct pass
If for no other reason
Than having loved
Deeply and lavishly
Man’s and God’s creation
With the true heart of an artist
