Notes About The Poem

Change

Nothing is constant but change, it is said...
I hate that saying
I hate change
I hate the change of love to indifference
I hate the change that makes a lover a friend
I hate the change that makes a friend an acquaintance

I've witnessed changes...
a band of friends disbands
collaborators collide and subside
"All for one and one for all" becomes only....ONE
damage done

Change.

Not all change is bad
that much is clear to me
I've become stronger, you see
able to be
free

Still...
I hate the change that made you withhold
the greeting...grow cold
forgetting another saying,"old is gold!"
You should be told...
that in all that change
the constant
was
always~~~
^ME^

So powerful and full of meaning. Through all the changes of life, it's important to remember the vital things that remain the same. That sometimes the negativity of "change" is actually the positivity of "growth", in disguise. I've probably said this before, but I've always admired your use of repetition in poetry. It adds great intensity, if done well.

I'm sick in bed, Edith....These days have taken a toll on me. We had one set of family members from my side of the family...and now we have from my husband's side. At least I made it through Christmas and New Year without getting ill. Now I'm in bed. Having a pity party. Thanks for visiting me, my dear friend. Hope your New Year is off to a great start. Hugs

I really like Demetrios's perspective on this one. Us humans do our best to prevent change but we can only temporarily pause it. If we embrace it we are experience so much more in our lives.

Do you know, dearest Eileen, that my Thesis is on Heraclitus philosophy? Do you know that those who do not understand him called Heraclitus the dark one but for those who understand him, his philosophy is brighter than the sun? Do not hate change my dear for change made you, a daughter, a wife, a mother! It is change that makes the bud a flower, a flower a fruit, a fruit nourishment and the conservation of life? Your poem wonderful for it has captured partly his philosophy. A seven. Filakia!

I so agree with what you've written here Eileen, I really think this is the case in almost everyone's life. Sometimes change can be the best thing to happen in one's life: young or even old.... Very strong poem of intelligence. Sherri

"I hate the change of love to indifference I hate the change that makes a lover a friend I hate the change that makes a friend an acquaintance"...Gosh, yeah, I get you...change can be so painful at times, and often it brings with it something new and beautiful. I wish you only the BEST changes this year. Always, Laura

Thanks, Laura. There have been some good changes...and some not so good. We roll with the flow. It's not like there is much else that can be done. Some change is inevitable. Thanks for the visit, sweetie. Hugs
