Chance Or Destiny? (A Short Story)

She opened the door and there he was
Or perhaps he opened the door and beheld her
He was tall and dashing, not exactly handsome
She is dark and pretty with a handful of freckles
Their eyes clash in a flash of recognition
He accepts the seat even as she forms the words of offer
She can tell he is shy in the words he utters
He wonders why she's suddenly slowed her breathing
They speak of this and that, relevant and mundane
I sit up here and twirl in delight
Basking in the glow of lovers reprise
He turns to leave, her heart is ablaze
His name she does not know, her future she sees in his eyes
She bids him farewell, he pauses, a look of something on his face
Is it of longing, is it of despair
Is this of chance or a dazzling pair of stars crossing
Don't look my way, those questions in your heart
I'm just a fly on the wall, this perch my temporary home.

Wow Didi, this poem is good. It takes my thoughts to the many casual greetings that we make and take daily in public places. Perhaps, missing the chance of a lifetime... and perhaps, not. The answer never to be known. I love this poem! DAS-J

excellent and one of the eternal question..seeing someone dumbstruck by you???? or being dumbstuck by someone..always a mind altering experience and seldom 2 sided. Last time I felt that way and one of the few times it was a guy who was pumping my gas LOL go figure? Excellent! good communiccating!!!Light & Love

Never disqualify the self with doubtful thoughts ... allow the heart to dream like a kite with head scouting the wind ... and string in the reality of your hand like destiny ... thanks for allowing me to read your work. I want to encourage you to continue to write ... you have a eye for detail ... and great dramatic style. Bravo ... love always.
