There is a sombre silence, as mist veils morning air. A plethora of feathers float among dew drops. A ceremony of birds, heads slumping, soundless and homeless, perch upon rooftops, observing fallen nests, cracked eggs and lifeless nestlings. Arrival of their fate is like paper in a storm. But birds don't ask why, they just spread their wings and fly.

What a meaningful write S1... I too have seen cracked eggs of pigeons in our window sill outside, while I used wait patiently to see them hatch... but for birds, as you said "arrival of fate is like paper in a storm".. "they just spread their wings and fly"... so true and insightful...God bless... ~ Ani

How inspirational your words were. You've aptly described the birds I see on early winter mornings perched, slumping to avoid the bitter winds. What a beautiful metaphor for we humans who, when faced with winter mornings, must do as birds do...not ask why just spread their wings and fly... Magnificent, Silent One! Faving this one, Sar a

Hello Silent One, I love birds and am deeply saddened when harm comes to any of them. We've made our backyard a bird sanctuary. We enjoy watching them go into the bird apartment house in the spring to build their nests. Sadly beautiful bird poem, a fine write. ~

Wow that last line is beautiful! And so meaningful. Birds dont ask why they just spread their wings and fly… i love the flow of imagery in this and the way you’ve played around with words is beyond exquisite. Especially “ as mist veils morning air.A plethora of feathers“ love that! Your choice of words and descriptive nature of lines. “ observing fallen nests, cracked eggs and lifeless nestlings.” I can literally see through your profound lines! How artistic. This will be perfect for brians-
