Celebrating 50:Xi
Yes mam, we are fifty years
Throwing our line into this blue sea
Fifty years reeling in
Nothing to quench the national hunger yet
And throwing out again
But we are not daunted
By the world's changing tides
We are not afraid of surfs foaming white
Nor glint of shark teeth before the bite
We ride the waves still gently
We wait for moon to warm the night
And will not let go
Though line like an umbilical cord
Attached to an alien wreck
Mothering the burn in our hand
Cuts deep the flesh
Of our humanity
We will not quit, we cannot let go
This is Jamaica
And forward is the only way we know.
