Celebrate My Death

I want you to celebrate my death
Even if I was to die tomorrow
Shed no tears, curse no gods
But do say a prayer for me

I want you to celebrate my passing
For that’s what life is
A long road that will surely come to an end
In my footprint you will see that I have lived my fill

Wanted to fly and I have flown
Wanted to dance and I have danced with sweat soaked shirt
Wanted to sing and I have sang
Wanted a little one to call mine and my Fatima shine so bright

Mourn me not when I am gone (mourn me not for now I rest)
Just say a few kind words
Let the angels know of the man I hoped have been
Let them take your words to Allah Almighty that’s above

Paradise I hope to call home
This life is only my journey towards it
I hoped, have chosen my path right
At every crossroad that was a test

For the wrong paths that have led
Hoped have found forgiveness with my creator Allah
Hoped with His mercy new paths have emerged
To take me to home

Don’t cry over this body of mine
From clay it was made to clay it shall returned
Just prayed that it find peace in the ground
Not punishment promised to the disbeliever

Pity me not for the life that could have been
I have faith that my life has been all that its meant to be
Have prayed for death to take me when my time is up
When I have Allah Mercy and a place by my beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Celebrate my death even if I was to die tomorrow
If corpse could cry, my will shed tears for you
For your journey still continue
And you are still far from home

Well written and most of us are afraid to speak or even write about Death. Well done and now I am inspired. " In my footprint you will see that I have lived my fill ''

Thanks Itumeleng, death is something I try to think about everyday and make peace. Which is the point I trying to get across but seem to be lost in translation. Glad you like the poem.

Hello Abosede, my fellow Nigerian. Thanks for the warm welcome. The message I am trying to get across with this poem seems to be lost. Its meant to be happy, a liberation from fear of death.

Welcome dear Ibrahim to our poetic family. Hope you find good friends here and stay for a long time! This is a fine poem my friend, with profound meaning especially as it deals with our brother death and the afterlife which I too believe!
