Caught In the Maelstrom

Caught in the maelstrom A world of darkness and misery for bewildered and tortured souls A world where howling winds reside in vortexes of black holes A world where hope is just a word whispered in a soft murmur A world where psychotic episodes revel at hopes murder A world where even light can't penetrate the dungeons of the imagination Where friendships and hope are wrecked on crashing waves of desperation How can one survive in this hostile world where hope is hopelessly caught in the maelstrom? Pray to the God who can resurrect hope and shelter you from miseries hailstorm! John Derek Hamilton August 25,2016

I think this was perfect to fit the theme of unhinged for the original contest John - I am lucky I don't suffer from depression but I know how debilitating it is for people. Many congrats on your win with Broken Wings:-) hugs jan xx

Even as poets we write on such events and feelings, I hope somehow we are the hope, expression always leads to hope and I loved this poem!

Thanks Arthur I appreciate your positive comments, poets can definitely start the discussion but I think true hope is bigger than us, comes from a higher source. Thanks again.

The emotions expressed feel as fierce as the force of Mother Nature you have so boldly penned. The desolation feels "alive" as if on a "mission impossible"...a terrifying thought. The last line feels of "salvation", a glimmer of respite from the destruction. Tough to read, incredibly well written, I respect the courage it takes to write of such "darkness". Your "pen" is a flashlight which will help others into the "light".:-) blessings, lynn

Thank you Lynn for your positive comments, you really are a loyal reader I really appreciate it.This one came from a place inside, after visiting a friend who suffers depression, and how he described it. He's medicated now and doesn't suffer the extremes of the highs and lows. Thanks so much for your thoughtful, insightful comments.

Coming from one who suffers from bouts of depression, I can relate to this John. I must admit though, during the really dark times the only thing I ask God for is to end it all. I enjoyed reading you today.

A friend of mine said the same thing, just wanted to die, was a good God fearing man, ended up he needed something for a chemical imbalance, he's medicated now, says he at least feels artificially happy, terrible situation when the mind is off balance, sorry to hear you suffer so much, may God grant you and your doctors wisdom to get adequate treatment. Blessings

Quite the intense composition here, John. I really enjoyed reading. I like the lines, "A world where hope is just a word whispered in a soft murmur" The world is chaotic and crazy, and as your last line reveals, we need God more than ever. Keep up the great work. Always, Laura

Thanks Laura, I'm honored for the positive response already. I have a few friends who suffer depression and this is how they describe it, hopefully it resonates with ones who need treatment and they seek it, too many suicides these days. God does care for sure, they/we are not alone.
