Cat's Good Omen
In a corner filled with her threadbare yarn,
Queenie meows then cuddles on my lap
Ebon fur darker than evening’s palette,
She glows over a bowl of creamy milk--
Immune to our neighbor’s vicious tale
Murmuring endlessly of a feline’s black omen.
How this growing kitten walks with ripened beauty
Adored by other pets in our own yard,
Pawing uninvited mice and waxing a smile
With a protective nature saving their lives;
As she juts out Persian claws out the gate.
Though looking different from other cats,
Dear Queenie slithers with an enduring gut...
Missing her now, those purrs which speak of love
Reside in our hearts as we think of her charms
When her spirit’s old age breathes away,
Finally embracing the gentle wisp of light.
