Cat and Rabbit

I tell you; it was painful to watch, and I wish that I'd never seen it.
Nearly all the cats I've seen were domesticated ones, and when it
comes to food, they were pets who ate special foods made for them.
That is why I was not prepared to observe a wild kingdom scene from
my window a few days ago, a scene that I had never before seen in all
of my 73 years. Also, when I shared the incident with my brother-in-law
who has lived on this farm most of his 65-plus years, he indicated that
he had never seen such. It has now been 6 days since I saw this, and I
even hesitate to write about this because I have learned how popular
and beloved cats are. Well, I will compromise by being less graphic in
describing the forever-living experience that my eyes actually beheld.

I must first say that I do not own any pets but have come to appreciate most
pets, especially cats. I doubt that the cat I observed was a pet but most
likely 'a stray'.  I don't mind them occasionally showing up on my property
because they do no harm and provide a valuable service, especially in the
rural, helping to keep undesirable animals at bay.

The cat's prey was nearly half his size, and in a race, I suspect the
cat would have lost. However, in this case, the cat may have outsmarted
its prey. After apprehending its meal, the cat chose to climb the back
steps to enjoy eating its prey on my second-floor deck. This window often
provides the most beautiful scenery of growing crops and breathtaking sunsets. But today was very different. So, allow me to take you with me,
step by step as I recorded the extraordinary scene:

At around 740 AM, from my second-floor window, I am observing a cat eating a rabbit on my back deck. I'm thinking that it is two cats cleaning each other as they often do, but a closer look reveals, indeed, a rabbit being eaten. I don't know the events that led to this meal, but the cat decided to eat without being detected and in privacy. The cat is slowly eating and feasting, and from the looks of what missing from the rabbit, he has been eating for a while.

As I observe him from my window, I am interested to know how much of the rabbit will be consumed in one setting. At 8 AM, the cat is no longer eating but is cleaning himself. He has not seen me observing him. At 810, the cat is reclined and resting. After getting his attention with a peck on the window, he slowly walked down the steps. Perhaps he will eat again later, but if he is not done, I will be forced to dispose of any remains and clean my deck.

I returned to the cat breakfast sight at around 2:35 PM to clean and dispose of the remains. To my surprise, the dead prey was gone and I discovered an internal body part on the steps and 2 foot-pieces further down on the deck. I was a bit surprised that he returned after seeing me. He's a sneaky one.

Most of the things that we see from our windows are beautiful and pleasing to the thought and mind. On the contrary, some others that we see from our windows, like the cat and rabbit scene from my window, are not so pleasant. On a pleasant Monday morning, such was the unpleasantry that I observed from my window.

I could not see this happening. My cat is an indoor cat. I think it is sad that a cat should eat a rabbit.
