Notes About The Poem

"To reminisce can bring daggers

that stab your heart leaving scars

and jagged pieces of you

and other recollections can bring a smile."

Casting My Mind Back

I reminisce, I miss . . . the past
all the joy ... the sadness and grief
I reminisce and look back on my life
and remember it all in detail
    the pain
and the happiness

~ it is a curse to be able to retain the past
to be able to call it up
with all the dreadful regret ~

       I muse over missed chances
all my failures, blunders and mishaps
the people I let go
the opportunities I passed up I regret
       too late ...

~in reflections I think of things I could have said
       things I could have done
things I left unsaid and now it is too late ~

but among my memories
I recall some lovely nostalgia too
like the smell of Grandma's apple pie
and drives in the county with Mom
finding some out of the way . . . place to lunch
oh, family get togethers bring me a tear
and pets we had over the years make me weep

~ the past comes rolling over me
like a mighty wave and I am helpless to hold it back
so, I let it flow over me ~

... and again and again ... I reminise, I miss
