Car and Me

The road is one of those things that belongs.
And other people too.
There’s no such thing as a new driver.
Just old, sloppy, drivers all over the place.
There’s no such thing as me with a brand new car.
Or even an old, old car.
Damaged and mangled.
Doesn’t belong.
Learned to drive one day at a time.
Until suddenly, I got scared.
Turned old and sloppy.
That stop sign didn’t stand a chance.
That’s what they said.

Dear Angelica, I like how you captured the uneasy relationship between self, car, and road and it’s not just about driving, but about belonging and fear creeping in over time. Control and confidence are fragile, yet the act of facing the road is still part of the journey. Holiday Blessings, Dear Angelica, Daniel
