Candy Coated
You shared with me
A bit of wisdom
I couldn’t see
Still far too young
But you were right
I’ve come to learn
I’d nod, polite
But not discern
Far too shielded
By my sugar coat
My mother sealed it
Each time she spoke
Nursing innocence
I felt secure
Within the fences
Of all things pure
