Cancel Him, Part I
Once there was a smallish town
where the people all lived free,
it could be raucous at times,
as free folks are wont to be.
But into this came a man
who said, “We must do better,
some who speak do hurt us all,
let’s silence them forever!”
He brought a crowd together,
dragged a man out and did voice:
“This man thinks some folks are poor
because they made a bad choice.
So little compassion here,
what should we do with him now?”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the roaring of the crowd.
He brought another man up,
then pronounced to all of them:
“This man thinks that the unborn
mean more than living women!
Hard to imagine such things,
what shall we do with him now?”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the roaring of the crowd.
“And this man thinks we’re helpless,
We can’t cool the climate down!”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the roaring of the crowd.
“And this guy thinks firearms
should forever be around.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the roaring of the crowd.
“And this guy thinks that children
should school at home, not in town.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the roaring of the crowd.
“And this guy thinks it’s okay
to have skin other then brown.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the shouting of the crowd.
“And this guy thinks deities
reign with a heavenly crown!”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the shouting of the crowd.
“And this fellow thinks hard work
should make a person feel proud.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the shouting of the crowd.
“And this one thinks that marriage
is something we should avow?!”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the clamor of the crowd.
“This guy thinks that your children
should be raised in your own house.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came the clamor of the crowd.
“And this one thinks property
is a right that is endowed.”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
Came the clamor of the crowd.
“This one thinks to government
not everything should be bound!”
“Cancel him! Yes, cancel him!”
came some voices from the crowd.
CONCLUDES IN PART II.
