Can We Love Those Different Than Us

If we had to love people who were the same as us We could love no one My identical twin looks like me But we share almost no ideas We laugh the same, it is a funny laugh Distinctive, and we move the same But we do not agree on politics or religion We each have our own mind This does not mean we cannot love each other If you could not love someone who thought differently You could love no one Even if you polled everyone at the same church They would have different ideas The trick is to listen to everyone Not to think like them, but to like them more By understanding where they are coming from You do not have to come from the same place to love them My identical twin and I are proof of this. We love each other immensely And agree on practically nothing Except that we do love each other immensely

Jesus said it best: What great thing have you done if you love only those that love you? I'm paraphrasing. (Matt.5:46). As for my poem on the bronze rabbit, it's a sculpture in our local park done by a local artist. That's all I know about it. Thanks for the stop by. / M

How powerfully and wonderfully beautiful! Caren, I hope this makes POTD. It is marvelous and touches us in the innermost being (& biographical as twins, you disagree on politics AND RELIGION, yet LOVE immensely). ThX Caren; wow!

Thank you so much my friend. My twin and I are supposedly "identical" and yet we spent 4.5 hours once trying to agree on matching t-shirts that we would both wear a second time. She wanted hearts and flowers and butterflies and I wanted Rosie the Riveter and Wonder Woman.
