Can We Love Those Different Than Us
If we had to love people who were the same as us
We could love no one
My identical twin looks like me
But we share almost no ideas
We laugh the same, it is a funny laugh
Distinctive, and we move the same
But we do not agree on politics or religion
We each have our own mind
This does not mean we cannot love each other
If you could not love someone who thought differently
You could love no one
Even if you polled everyone at the same church
They would have different ideas
The trick is to listen to everyone
Not to think like them, but to like them more
By understanding where they are coming from
You do not have to come from the same place to love them
My identical twin and I are proof of this.
We love each other immensely
And agree on practically nothing
Except that we do love each other immensely
