Notes About The Poem

Inspired by "The Beautiful Impossible" contest. It doesn't meet requirements for entry.

Can The Unmendable Be Mended?

A glass falls and shatters
Scattering crystals
On the floor.
So up it is swept
And tossed in to the bin
To be thought about
No more.

A splinter or two
Are left behind.
They cut
And it serves
To remind
One of the
Treasure
That has gone.

What's in a glass?
It is memories
Carrying refreshments
Of sentiment,
Occasions shared with
Celebratory clinks
As a toast is made
Before one drinks...

A sudden fall
The crash
The smash
And the value is forgotten.
If it was special
It stings for a while
Then life
Moves on.

Likewise, a sudden
Turn of events
And one can
Become that glass!
Broken
Unmendable
With a need for
Tenderness,
While the most
Surprising individuals
Just pass.

The memories
The relationships
That once were
Are shattered
And scattered about.
One wonders
If one too
Is swept
Away from their hearts,
Chucked out.

The splinters of such loss
Remains and
They pierce
The aching heart.
Those geographically
Closest to one
Become the furthest away
Adding layers
To existing grief.
Can such
Relationships
Be repaired
And thus bring forth relief?

The reality is
That like the glass,
Some ties
Are slashed
Forever.
So when the
Seemingly unmendable
Are mended,
It's to cherish
And to
Treasure.

It's so interesting how you compare shattered relationships to glass. You write very intelligently. I didn't try this contest because I didn't exactly understand what to do. Maybe if you enter it, you still could get a placement. Also. Thanks for your last lovely remark to my poem 🌸

Thanks Andrea 😉🌸🌹 The line count had to be no more than 30 and I didnt use a contrasting sentence similar to the examples given. But as the contest inspired this poem, I wanted to give credit because I wouldn't have written this. I could try writing another poem like this and entering it. Will see if I can bring my mind round to it 😊😉💎🌸
