Notes About The Poem

Can Poetry Matter

In the debate between accessible and difficult poems
Poets' poems and poems for people
Only the single poem and private reader matter

Both kinds and anything between can matter or not
Solid or made of air, a vase or heavy clay ashtray
One word repeated or many like a lei

An acquired taste, like wine, and like wine
Not sustenance, yet men die with their miseries
Uncut without it, news and mere matter

I advise everyone to keep a personal anthology of poems that matter
Or not. Perhaps it should be novels. Stones, insect wings,
Feathers, Birds you've seen, People loved.

I like the way your title informs yet misinforms the reader, in what seems like a question revealing itself as a statement based on the lines that follow. From stanza to stanza stay with your main idea of your creation. Overall it's good. Work on your ending punctuation. For the reader there needs to be knowledge of your beginning of a statement or thought and the ending of the statement or thought.

Poetry to me is life personified. It relates all the drama, pathos, loves and desires from within into a readable form. 7 & fav'ed. God Bless. D.

Hi Robert: A great description of the making of a poem whether psychological or not. My compliments.

The freedom to express ourselves is a constitutional right. Write On. :) Peace.

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." Genesis 1:1-4 I for one strongly believe, poetry matters simply because, I see our lives as living testimony for that, for we are after all are poetry in motion

Yes, poetry can matter from different ways that can be known from the subject matter of the poem written in poet's style. Poems carry many unknown things from which we can enlage our vision to be perfected with particular subject matter. This is a nice question "Can poetry matter?" Really nice it's. Loved always, my lovely friend,bl

It's interesting you wrote this. I've been tossing a similar idea around in my mind for a few days, just haven't quite figured out how I want to dress it up yet. Anyway, I just favorited this one, thanks for sharing it Robert.

My poetry matters a great deal to me Robert - starting writing 14 months ago has been a lifesaver to me and has helped to get me through the worst period of my life. All my poems are saved and are gradually being printed out and put into folders - some may consider my work to be 'simple' but i write for me and hopefully to entertain and amuse others and if i can make someone smile that is the best thing in the world to me:-) Hugs jan xx
